FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers – Update

This weekend, November 27 – 30, the next window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers will take place with the sport’s international governing body confirming earlier this month that Group C matches were postponed.

Group C – which features Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Guam – along with Groups B and F, have had their games postponed due to challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Basketball Australia Executive GM, High Performance & National Teams, Jan Stirling said, “Against the backdrop of the pandemic and with the health and wellbeing of our athletes, support staff and officials front of mind, it was not possible for our men’s team to contest the November window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers.

“Australia wasn’t the only country in the same position and we thank FIBA for understanding the complex situation a number of teams are facing when it comes to international travel and domestic borders.

“Along with the other countries in Group C, Basketball Australia will continue to work with FIBA on when these qualifying games can be rescheduled in the New Year.”

The next and final window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers will take place from 18-22 February 2021. The top two teams in the standings of each of the six groups at the end of the Qualifiers will qualify directly for FIBA Asia Cup 2021. The third-placed teams in each group will then proceed to play in a separate tournament to determine the remaining four teams that will complete the 16-team field of FIBA Asia Cup 2021.
