CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION FINALISED FOR 2017 AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL CHAMPS

As the build-up towards the 2017 Australian School Championships continues to grow, the 16 teams for the Championship Division across the men’s and women’s competition have been finalised.

The State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South, Melbourne will host the tournament from December 4-8, bringing together athletes from around the country and internationally.

Teams compete across the Senior Under-20 divisions, Junior Under-17's and Freshman Under-15 tournaments for the men and women while the Championship Division is the most prestigious, featuring the highest ranked schools from Australia.

This year, six state and territories will be represented with last year's Boys Championship Division winners Marcellin College (Vic) earning a coveted wildcard position after failing to qualify through the Basketball Victoria Champions Cup.

However, they will have to deal with Trinity College (SA) who will be out for revenge after falling to Marcellin in the 2016 Final while Lake Ginninderra (ACT), featuring Centre of Excellence scholarship holders Mate Colina and Matthew Johns, will be aiming to improve on their fourth-placed finish from last year.

The girls competition is wide open with the 2016 winners, Box Hill Secondary College, not returning.

Last year's silver medallists, Rowville Secondary College (Vic), will be back though and they will also take on Lake Ginninderra while Kennedy Baptist College (WA) will make their debut and Bendigo Senior Secondary College (Vic), who won the School Sport Victoria Championships, have earned one of the wildcard positions.

Stay tuned in the coming days for the release of the entire draw and fixture.
