The Opals will be pitted against Korea, Philippines and Japan in Group B while Group A consists of New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, DPR of Korea and China.
Those eight sides make up Division A while Division B consists of teams vying to earn promotion to Division A for the next FIBA Asia Women’s Cup.
The full schedule for the tournament will be released in the upcoming weeks but this draw reveals who Australia will have to defeat in order to qualify for the 2018 World Cup with the top four teams advancing.
Australia will play their three opponents in the group stage but all eight teams across both groups will advance to the Quarter-Finals, carrying over their points from the first three games.
They will then cross over and play against Group B teams (match-ups dependent on previous results) and the four winners of those Quarter-Finals will earn qualification through to the World Cup while also playing off in the Semi-Finals and for bronze and gold at the FIBA Women's Asia Cup.
