They defeated the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, featuring fellow Aussie Sam White, 76-52 in the final to claim their first title since 2006.

Five players scored in double-figures including McCarthy-Grogan who collected 13 points and eight rebounds.

"We went into the National Championship weekend as the number one seed and we had done all the hard work leading up to it throughout the season," said McCarthy-Grogan.

"In the past, UTA has been one of the top teams but unfortunately weren't able to win a championship and that did sit in the back of my mind.

"But at the same time, it also motivated me from the start of the season to choose UTA and to be a part of something bigger than myself.

"It's a pretty cool feeling coming to study and play college wheelchair basketball in the US and to win a National Championship on top of that is a bonus.

"I feel very blessed to be given this wonderful opportunity to be a part of the Movin' Mavs family and I'd like to thank my parents, my brother, all of my family, friends, my NWBL team Sydney Metro Blues and especially my coach Troy Sachs for all of his help on and off the court."

UTA coach Doug Garner was in his first year as leader of the Movin' Mavs and was full of praise for both McCarthy-Grogan and Dohnt following the Championship victory.

"I was proud to have CJ and Jay represent our program all year on and off the court," Garner said.

"They brought a spirit of trust in the process and communication on the court, on the bench, in practice and on campus that were important to helping our program reach our goals.

"CJ's outside shooting and work with the ball behind the screen not only contributed to our scores but helped create opportunities for others in creating pick and rolls and spreading the floor.

"Jay has come so far in his chair skills and defense this year and made great improvements in finishing. I expect him to continue his development and be a big part of our line-ups for next year."
