The Under-14 Club Championships are an important first step within Basketball Australia’s elite junior pathway and provide the only opportunity for players to represent their club at a national level.
For the first time ever, the boys and girls tournaments will be held as one event across Newcastle and Maitland and total of 48 teams will be competing, with 24 boys and girls teams split into six pools.
In the boys competition, Sturt Sabres will be aiming to go back-to-back in the Championship division after they snapped a three-year Victorian winning streak in 2015.
Bulleen Boomers will not be back to defend their title in the girls Championship division, giving Knox Raiders and the Canberra Capitals, who fought for the bronze medal in 2015, the chance to improve on that mark as well as the Manly Sea Eagles who won the silver medal last year.
The Shield Division saw Willetton Tigers boys and Sturt Sabres girls take out the titles last year and both sides will be returning in 2016.
