Queensland North have begun their Championship defence with a strong victory over ACT on Day 1 in the men's competition but WA Metro were the most impressive team, taking out wins against Tasmania and NSW Metro.

Wani Swaka Lo Buluk paced the team with 16.5 points per game but he led four players in double-figure scoring, showcasing depth that will be a concern for other sides.

Over in Pool A, SA Country, Vic Metro and QLD South all picked up wins with the hosts fighting out an exciting clash with New Zealand before succeeding by just seven points.

NSW Country proved too good for NT in the afternoon but backing up again that night, fell to QLD South by 23 points to finish at 1-1 for Day 1.

In the women's competition, last year's winners QLD South sent a message with a thrashing of NT, recording over 100 points in the process.

SA Metro also hit the century mark in a win over Tasmania while Vic Country and WA Metro sit equal first alongside those two sides.

In Pool A, SA Country have gotten off to the perfect start with two solid wins over WA Country and ACT. They face Vic Metro tonight who picked up one win on the opening day of competition along with Queensland North.
