The Sapphires have raced to the top of Group B as the only unbeaten team and own an average winning margin of 37.5 points.

Their air-tight defence was on show from the outset for the second night in a row as they held China to just five points in the opening quarter, an incredible 10% shooting for the first half and 26% shooting overall.

Ezi Magbegor (12 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks) and Rebecca Pizzey (seven points, three rebounds and a block) set the tone as they kept the opposition out of the paint while Samantha Simons was devastating at the other end of the floor, hitting 3-3 from beyond the arc in the opening two periods.

Unlike the night before against Mexico, Australia let their pressure slip slightly in the second half as China reduced what was a 27-point margin and the Sapphires tallied 24 turnovers but the damage had already been done.

Simons finished with 16 points to lead the Sapphires while Monique Conti had nine points and Jasmine Simmons added seven and three assists.

As with their first game, coach Shannon Seebohm was able to share the minutes around to ensure no player will be going into the finals fatigued as Jazmin Shelley's 23 minutes was a team-high.
