JAYCO OPALS CULMINATE EUROPEAN TOUR IN FRANCE

Finishing their tour of Europe with a second straight loss, the Jayco Australian Opals have been defeated 58-50 by the host nation France.

In similar fashion to their loss to Canada the night before, Australia took a seven-point lead into quarter-time before a strong defensive second term from France held the Opals to just eight points and tied the game at the main break.

France were then able to pull away for a double-digit lead of their own in the fourth quarter as they tallied a 13-4 advantage in second chance points and recorded 19 more free throw attempts.

Only two Opals players were able to reach double-figures in scoring with Leilani Mitchell and Liz Cambage collecting 11 points apiece.

Steph Talbot was also influential with six points, seven rebounds and seven assists while Marianna Tolo enjoyed 20 minutes of court time with seven points and three steals off the bench.

"As expected we knew playing France in France at the end of our tour would be tough," said head coach Brendan Joyce.

"Although we lost, we should feel good about the fight we showed until the end of the match."

Australia finished their European tour with a 5-3 record, defeating Argentina, Italy, Belgium, Cameroon, and China with their three losses coming against top ten ranked countries in Spain, Canada and France.

"This tour has been positive in respect to exposing areas we need to improve."

The Opals now head home for two finals camps in late June and early July before one final overseas tour that will be announced very soon.
