AUSTRALIAN BOOMERS HEADING INTO CAMP AHEAD OF RIO

The Australian Boomers have arrived in Melbourne to begin their training camp from Tuesday July 5-Thursday July 14 with the aim to select the final team ahead of Rio.

The squad is only slightly altered from the initial team that was trimmed down in late May with Daniel Kickert and Aleks Maric topping up the list due to the absence of Dante Exum and the knee injury to Andrew Bogut.

Bogut’s availability for Rio is yet to be determined but as he begins rehabilitation and physiotherapy, he will not be able to participate in the camp.

Kickert was a member of the Boomers 2006 World Championship team while Euroleague champion Maric competed at the 2010 World Championships and the 2012 London Olympics with the Boomers.

“I’m pleased for both Daniel and Aleks that they will get an opportunity to compete in the camp,” said Australian Boomers head coach Andrej Lemanis.

“Both are quality players and quality people who will each bring a different set of skills for the coaching staff to consider in terms of the overall mix of the team.

“Being in a position to bring in players of their quality at this point is another illustration of the depth of talent we currently have in this country.”

Following an intensive week of training, the Boomers will play two games at Hisense Arena against a Pac-12 Conference All-Stars team from the USA with what will be the final team for Rio.

These games will serve as Australia’s last chance to see the national team in person before they head to South America and tickets can be purchased via Ticketek here.

“The camp and games at Hisense Arena form a critical part of our preparation for Rio,” said Lemanis.

“We will continue to build on our offensive and defensive structures from previous years. We will also invest a lot of time off the court ensuring that, as a team, we put ourselves in the best position to deal with the challenges that lay ahead.”
