2015 UNDER-14 AUSTRALIAN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Preparations are well underway in Perth for the Under-14 Boys Club Championships and in Terrigal for the Under-14 Girls Club Championships which will be run from September 28- October 3.

The Boys tournament will give Perth the chance to showcase their new Bendat Basketball Centre after the $45 million facility opened in 2010. Consisting of eight courts, the stadium also contains a 2,000 seat showcourt.

“It has been a long time since Perth last hosted an Under-14 Boys Championship,” said Basketball WA Chief Operating Officer Christian Rice.

“The benefit of bringing families from all around Australia to experience our city is beneficial for the sport and the community as a whole.”

The competition should be wide-open this year with the victors of the past four Championships having not qualified while a Western Australian team will be desperate to succeed in their home state, having not had a winning side since the Willetton Tigers in 2001.

Gosford has a history of Club Championships, having previously hosted the Boys Championship in 2004 while also running Under-16 and Under-18 National Championships over the years.

Chris Ohlback, General Manager of Gosford City Basketball, is grateful to be hosting an event that is likely to help produce the next crop of Australian basketball superstars.

“We are extremely honoured to be hosting this unique event on behalf of Basketball NSW and look forward to the opportunity of being able to showcase the beautiful Central Coast,” he said.

“This Championship is like no other in that it is Association based and fosters local development with the opportunity to compete on a national stage against the best teams and players from across the country.

“We look forward to playing an integral part in the next generation of female talent as a result of these Championships.”

Run across two stadiums, Scholastic Sports Stadium will be the main venue while Central Coast Adventist School will provide the support venue.

Last year’s winners, Norths Bears, will be aiming for a second consecutive Championship while the Gosford City Rebels would love a victory in front of their home crowd.
