Victoria to Host First 3x3 Nationals Tournament

Geelong will host the first 3X3 Nationals tournament on March 7 & 8 and local Supercats champion and 3X3 ambassador, Liam McInerney is calling all basketball enthusiasts’ to jump on board and sign up!

“It's an extremely entertaining style of basketball to play and watch, and it doesn't require huge amounts of preparation that a regular basketball season would. If you've played basketball at any level, in any format before, then you should definitely enter a team,” Liam said.

Currently playing for the Geelong Supercats, Liam’s list of achievements is nothing short of amazing. To name a few; he represented Australia at the Oceania Youth Championships where Australia earned the silver medal. In 2013 the Geelong Supercats awarded him with the Rookie of the Year award and in 2014 he won the 2014/15 CBL South-West Conference Grand Final.

Liam lives and breaths basketball and that is why he has been timelessly on the ground spreading the 3X3 word.

“As one of the strongest sporting towns in Australia, the 3X3 tournament will allow Geelong to lead the way in introducing the sport to the state and nation as a whole,” he said.

Liam is most impressed by the intensity, pace, and structure of the game, which means that anybody can win!

“It’s a great alternative to the traditional style of basketball that is open to anybody, and anybody can play at the highest level, not just elite athletes,” he said.

The 3X3 Nationals are open to basketball players from across the community, including associations, schools, businesses and even from local “street” courts. Teams consist of four players who are guaranteed at least three matches in their qualifying event.

This ever-growing popular new sport, which is played in over 200 countries worldwide, will be held in 7 iconic locations around Australia. Kicking off with Geelong on 7-8 March, Albany 14-15 March, Latrobe 28-29 March, Wollongong 11-12 April, Gold Coast 16-17 April, Townsville 2-3 May and Murray Bridge 9-10 May.

Teams that qualify for the quarter finals at each of the seven 3X3 Nationals – Qualifier events, are automatically eligible to compete in the 3X3 National Finals, with no registration fee being charged for the Finals. Teams can register and compete in multiple qualifying events if they wish.

The 3X3 Nationals is an event not to be missed, plus there is an awesome pool of prizes up for grabs!
