It was strong start from the Mercury, establishing a 28-21 lead after a high scoring first quarter that had both teams executing their offense at a high level. The Western Conference giants when basket for basketball in the second quarter, resulting in the home team holding a 50-42 advantage.
As expected, Minnesota made their run in the third quarter, but could not cut the deficit to less than five points. The final quarter was all Phoenix, restricting their opponents to just 11 points in a one-sided finish to the game.
The Mercury now advance to the WNBA Finals where they will meet the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals series between the Chicago Sky and Phillips’ former team – the Indiana Fever.
Should the Fever progress, it would setup match-up between Phillips and the team she would play a major role in winning the 2012 WNBA Championship with.
The Jayco Opals star set a WNBA Finals three-point shooting record in the Fever’s 2012 title run before being traded to Phoenix prior to the start of this season – teaming up with Australians Taylor and Head Coach Sandy Brondello.
