Aussies Abroad: Ingles advances to Euroleague QFs

Australian Boomers star Joe Ingles and his Maccabi Tel-Aviv team have secured passage to the Euroleague quarter finals after rounding out the Top 16 phase with a 94-92 win over Bayern Munich on Friday.

The Israeli powerhouse finished third in their group to set up a quarter final tie against Italian giants Olympia Milano, with the best-of-five series tipping off on 15 April.

Fellow Australian Boomer Aleks Maric and his Lokomotiv Kuban face a must-win clash against Real Madrid if they are to advance to the quarter final stage in their final Top 16 fixture tomorrow morning (AEDT).

Boomers star guard Patty Mills continues his fine form in the NBA, helping the San Antonio Spurs extend their winning streak to a remarkable 19 games, with big time performances this week.

The two-time Olympian had 10 points in 13 minutes as the Spurs claimed a big win over the Indiana Pacers 103-77 on Tuesday before dropping 13 points in 20 minutes as the Spurs defeated the Andrew Bogut-less Golden State Warriors 111-90 on Thursday.

The return of Tony Parker to the Spurs starting line-up has reduced the minutes on offer for Mills, but the 25-year-old is making the most of his court time, averaging 12.3 points per game at an outstanding 58% shooting from the field over his past six outings.

David Andersen and his Strasburg team stay firmly in the mix for the French league championship after a comfortable 84-70 win over Nancy on Tuesday. The Boomers veteran had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 27 minutes.

Jayco Australian Opals sharp-shooter Belinda Snell is heading to Game 3 in Poland as her CCC Polkowice team look to advance to the championship final.

Finishing second in the league with a 22-6 record, Snell’s team slipped up in Game 1 of the semi-final series on Thursday, going down 61-57 to Artego BYDG despite 14 points and 6 rebounds from the three-time Olympian.

24 hours later Snell had 16 points and 3 rebounds in 27 minutes as Polkowice claimed a 71-44 victory. Game 3 takes place on Monday morning (AEDT).
