Cambage dominates in WCBA Finals

Jayco Australian Opals star Liz Cambage has produced a master class to guide her Beijing team to a Game One victory over Shanxi 88-86 to take the early advantage in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) Finals in China last night.

It was a dominant Cambage who set the tone for Beijing, posting an incredible 48 points and 21 rebounds in what was a battle between the Opals centre and American star Maya Moore, who finished with 46 points, 11 steals and 8 rebounds.

Coming into the WCBA Finals after an upset semi-final series victory over Shanghai, Cambage would meet Moore and her Shanxi team for the second time in the league’s showpiece series.

The two stars went head-to-head in last season’s finals when Cambage was at Zhejiang Far East, with Moore coming out on top and winning the title.

This season appears to be on a different trajectory, with Cambage producing her best performance of the campaign in the first game of the WCBA Finals series. This was the 22-year-old’s seventh game of 40 points or more and tied for a season-high rebound count.

Game Two takes place late on Friday night (AEDT), with Cambage hoping to give her team a 2-0 series advantage as she looks to secure a first WCBA Championship at her second attempt.
