Cambage earns WCBA All-Star starting place

Jayco Australian Opals star Liz Cambage has continued her amazing second season in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association, earning a starting place in the North Team for the 2014 WCBA All-Star Game.

Regarded as one of the premier imports in the WCBA, Cambage has followed up her remarkable rookie season in China with a stellar campaign to date, averaging 32.9 points (per game) and 7.6 rebounds as her Beijing team sit third on the ladder.

The 22-year-old centre made a splash in her debut season, helping Zhejiang to the regular season title before going down to Shanxi in the WCBA Finals. Cambage was dominant from the start of the season, posting 12 games of 40-plus points on her way to averaging 36.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks.

This remarkable performance saw Beijing, one of the WCBA’s premier clubs, come knocking and Cambage took the opportunity to join the capital club. So far this season, the 2012 London Olympic Games bronze medallist has posted six 40-plus point games, shooting at an eye-popping 78.3% from the field and a career-best 81.4% from the free throw line.

Cambage is in action again for Beijing tonight as they face fellow Opals star Lauren Jackson and her Heilongjiang team in Round 21 action.
