Rollers join Gliders in AOZ Final

The Australian Rollers have joined the Australian Gliders in the final of the 2013 IWBF Asia-Oceania Zone Championships in Thailand after a hard fought 74-60 semi-final win over Japan last night.

In their toughest hit out of the tournament to date, the Rollers were challenged by their Japanese opponents, holding just one point lead at the going into the final quarter. Having already assured their passage to next year’s IWBF Men’s Wheelchair Basketball World Championships in South Korea by reaching the semi-final stage, the Rollers were a different team in the final quarter.

It was the veteran core of Tristan Knowles, Shaun Norris and Justin Eveson that would ensure the Rollers would maintain their unbeaten run in Bangkok and reach the tournament final, leading a 29-16 final quarter that ensured a 14 point victory.

Norris was brilliant with the game on the line, posting 22 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Eveson had 15 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

The Rollers face South Korea in the final after they accounted for the highly-fancied Iraq 87-67 in their semi-final.

For the Gliders, their final opponent will be China – the team that gave them all almighty scare in the final game of the group stages.
