Aussies Abroad: Tolo and Ingles fire

It was a winless start to Euroleague Women’s competition for our Jayco Australian Opals despite some impressive performances.

Marianna Tolo had a team-high 13 points and 2 blocks in Bourges Basket’s 61-55 defeat to Beretta Famila in their opening clash of the competition. Fellow Opal Belinda Snell 11 points and 2 steals as her Polish powerhouse CCC Polkowice loss a close contest 68-66 to Kibirkstis-Vici Vilnius to open their Euroleague campaign.

Australian Boomers star Joe Ingles and his Maccabi Tel-Aviv made it back-to-back Euroleague victories, defeating Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius 76-74. Ingles posted 8 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds in 32 minutes.

David Barlow and is Zielona Gora are in action on Saturday morning AEDT, taking on Nathan Jawai’s Galatasaray in round four of Eurloeague action, with the game beaming LIVE on Eurosport at 5:00am AEDT.

The winning form for Ingles and his Maccabi Tel-Aviv team came off the back of a convincing 85-74 Israeli League win over Galil Gilboa. It was another impressive all-round performance from Ingles, dropping 11 points to go with 8 assists and 4 rebounds.

The rise of Brock Motum continues to gather momentum, with the sharp-shooting big posting 15 points and 5 rebounds in Bologna’s 96-73 victory over Sutor MGR in Italian Serie A round four.

Daniel Kickert has maintained his scoring form for Ukrainian club Azovmash, dropping 19 points to go with 7 rebounds in their 81-58 round five Superleague victory. Kickert is currently ranked third in scoring in the Superleague, posting 19.8 points per game.

It was a slow week for the Australian Boomers in the NBA, with Patty Mills hitting 8 points and 3 steals in the San Antonio Spurs 102-94 win over Denver on Wednesday.

Mills and Aron Baynes will face Golden State and fellow Boomer Andrew Bogut on Saturday as San Antonio welcome their Western Conference rivals. The game will be LIVE on ESPN from 12:30pm AEDT.
