Aussies Abroad: Delly closing in on NBA roster spot

Australian Boomers guard Matthew Dellavedova continues to impress in the absence of guard Jarrett Jack, playing 26 minutes in the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-79 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Sunday (AEDT).

The 23-year-old is currently fighting for the final roster position on the Cavs squad and did his chances no harm by posting 5 assists and 4 rebounds.

Back spasms forced Australian Boomers centre Andrew Bogut out of the Golden State Warriors clash with the Los Angeles Lakers less than three minutes into the game as the team cruised to a 115-89 victory in Shanghai on Friday night (AEDT).

Bogut came up sore after an impressive spin move and basket against Lakers big man Pau Gasol, having to take himself out of the game. A time frame hasn’t been placed on Bogut’s return, with the Warriors first game of the NBA season proper on October 31.

In Miami it was Australian Boomers star Aron Baynes who continued his impressive pre-season form, adding 8 points and 7 rebounds in 17 minutes as the San Antonio Spurs fell to the Miami Heat 121-96 on Sunday (AEDT). It was a tough shooting night for the in-form Patty Mills, going 1-of-9 from the floor in his 19 minutes.

It was again a Belinda Snell-inspired victory for Polish giants CCC Polkowice, recording their fifth consecutive win of the BLK season, defeating MKS Konin 63-43 on Sunday (AEDT). Snell finished with 19 points and 5 rebounds in the low-scoring affair.

The three-time Olympian and Jayco Australian Opals legend is averaging more than 17 points per game and is currently 5th on the BLK scoring charts.

A near-perfect performance from Marianna Tolo has helped Bourges Basket to a comprehensive 83-41 victory over Nice in the LFB French League. Tolo had a game-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, with her team currently sitting top of the standings after three rounds. Fellow Opal Cayla Francis had 6 points and 6 rebounds in Nantes 76-62 defeat against Toulouse.

It was a tough Euroleague initiation for Boomers forward David Barlow, with his Zielona Gora going down 94-73 to German giants Bayern Munich. Barlow played 21 minutes in his first career Euroleague game, finishing with 6 points.

Barlow’s team face Spanish outfit Malaga as Euroleague continues, with Aleks Maric’s Lokomotiv Kuban hosting Lietuvos Rytas LIVE on Eurosport at 3:00am AEDT on Friday morning. Joe Ingles and his Maccabi Tel-Aviv welcome Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade, while Nathan Jawai’s Galatasaray face Greek team Olympiacos LIVE on Eurosport at 5:45am AEDT on Friday morning.

Brock Motum’s Granarolo Bologna have continued their winning start to the Serie A campaign, claiming a dramatic 87-81 overtime victory against Vanoli CR on the road. Motum finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds from 26 minutes.

A brilliant performance from Daniel Kickert couldn’t stop his Azovmash team from dropping their opening game of the Ukrainian season, going down 79-71 to BC Donetsk on Saturday. Kickert – at his third Ukrainian club in less than 12 months – finished with a game-high 21 points and 7 rebounds.
