For the first time, the national wheelchair basketball teams will benefit from a four-year compression sponsorship, with Alanic International supplying gear to athletes from its next generation compression range – the Cloak Series.
Basketball Australia Chief Executive Officer Kristina Keneally said the deal was another step forward for one of the world’s premier national wheelchair basketball programs.
“Australia’s wheelchair basketball teams are a force to be reckoned with on the world stage; between them, the Rollers and Gliders – both ranked second in the world – boast eight Paralympic and three World Championship medals,” Ms Keneally said.
“Historically, Basketball Australia’s multi-year compression partnerships have not covered our national wheelchair program – so this year we’ve negotiated a broader deal with Alanic International to service those deserving teams.
“We’re pleased Alanic International, our Official Compression Partner, has recognised the dedication and professionalism of our wheelchair athletes through this four-year sponsorship, and we look forward to working with them in years to come.”
Kevin Painter, National Sales Manager of Alanic Asia Pacific said: “Alanic International is thrilled to extend our partnership with Basketball Australia to include the men’s and women’s national wheelchair teams and elite pathway teams.
“Wheelchair basketball is widely recognised as the fastest growing sport for athletes with a disability, which aligns perfectly with Alanic International as we continue to grow our global retail brand and strengthen our international reputation.
“We, along with fans right across Australia, are inspired by the contribution our wheelchair basketball athletes make to the sport, and we’re pleased to support their recovery and performance needs through this sponsorship.”
Basketball Australia and Alanic International also recently announced a multi-year compression partnership to service Women’s National Basketball League clubs, the Boomers and Opals, Emerging Boomers and Emerging Opals, the Emus and Gems Under 19 teams and the Under 17 boys and girls teams.
Alanic International’s Cloak Series has previously supported the Melbourne Storm through the 2013 World Club Challenge, with that partnership extending into the 2013 Telstra NRL Premiership.
The Cloak Series – which currently boasts compression shorts, pants, tanks and socks for men and women – will also expand and become available for custom orders from this month.
As per Basketball Australia’s standard policy, the full commercial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
