Mills fires up for Spurs in NBA

Australian Boomers Patty Mills starred for made the most of absence of San Antonio Spurs teammate Tony Parker’s absence, scoring a quick-fire 16 point in his team’s 97-87 win over the Phoenix Suns yesterday.

It wasn’t all good news for the Aussie contingent in the NBA, with Golden State Warriors centre Andrew Bogut suffering another injury setback, with a protruding disc forcing the Boomers big man out indefinitely.

Minutes have been hard to come by of late for Mills, with the Spurs backcourt enjoying a fine run of form, but with Parker sidelined the top-scorer at the 2012 London Olympic Games wasted no time reminding coach Tony Popovich of his talents, finishing the road win with 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

While Mills was enjoying the chance to show his wares it was another frustration for Bogut, with the back spasms that forced him to sit out the Australian history-making Warriors v Spurs clash on Saturday turning out to be far more serious.

Warriors’ coach Mark Jackson has given no timetable for Bogut’s return, with the play-off bound team still having 26 games on their regular season schedule.

Since returning to action in late January, Bogut has been carefully monitored, not playing on consecutive nights prior to the NBA All-Star break.
