Australian U20 and Ivor Burge Basketball Championships - Day 2 Report

Victoria continued on its merry way in the early games of day 2 of the Australian Under 20 and Ivor Burge Basketball Championships being played in Launceston at the Elphin Sports Centre.

After taking all before it on the opening day with six wins from six games, the Victorians finally lost a game although it took another Victorian team to inflict the damage with the Victoria Metro women’s Ivor Burge team overcoming Victoria Country 93-21.

Victoria Country then went on to drop another game when its Ivor Burge men’s side went down to Queensland 78-84.

Mid-way through day 2, Queensland heads Pool A of the Ivor Burge men’s competition for players with an intellectual disability with two wins from two games while Victoria Metro and South Australia share the lead in Pool B with two wins apiece.

The lead in the Ivor Burge women’s competition is shared between New South Wales Country and Victoria Metro both of which are unbeaten after two matches.

Tasmania’s Ivor Burge teams have yet to taste victory after two days of competition, with the women’s side going down to New South Wales Metro 20-67 and the men losing to Victoria Metro 49-110.

Bruce Stanley (17 points and eight rebounds) and Josh Cleary (12 points and 17 rebounds) led the way for the Tasmanian men while Christine Maynard stood out for the women with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Matches continue today (Monday) through to 9.30pm and then through the week with finals on Saturday.
