Only five of the round robin games were completed before the end of play. Australian Green and Australia Gold men’s teams went head-to-head before the warm weather kicked in, with the Gold team beating the Green, 18-12.
As temperatures soared to above 40 degrees around midday, the players were kept waiting indoors before officials gave them the nod to resume play at around 4pm.
It was then that the Australian Green women’s team was able to beat Indonesia by 15 points, 20-5.
In other matches, China defeated New Zealand 11-6 in the women’s competition, China beat Indonesia 16-6 and New Zealand edged out their Oceania rivals 18-14 in the men’s competition.
The Australia Gold men’s team were looking good against Great Britain until the rain put a stop to the game, which will resume on Saturday morning, along with the rest of the round robin phase.
