With wet weather overnight forcing a venue change to Sydney Boys High School, a new energy was brought to the indoor court from both players and spectators in anticipation of the finals.

The day couldn’t have gone better for the Gold men’s team who started the day with a bang, beating Great Britain in a resumed match, that was cancelled mid-play Friday, due to the rain.

Tanner Krebs and Kai Healy contributed six points each in the fast-paced game, leading their team to victory over Great Britain, 21-12.

Meantime the Green men’s team faced China who was hungry for a win after their loss to the Gold team. But after an even-running match, China couldn’t shake the Australian defence as they took it to the middle in the last minutes to close the game 18-16.

Later, Great Britain and China went head-to-head for the bronze but Team GB scored just enough points to prove how deserving they were of the medal, winning by three points, 19-16.

Following the defeat of their biggest threats in the competition, the Green and Gold teams quickly went from friends to rivals in their quest for gold.

But despite this, the boys were cool, calm and collected in the lead up to the decider.

“We’re just going to treat them like we do any opponent… but it’s war!” Jack McVeigh from the Gold team said, jokingly.

In the dramatic final, Tad Dufelmeier’s quick hands saw him score three points for the Gold team in the first few minutes of the game.

Neither team messed around, with all players taking it straight to the middle for a chance to score another basket.

The Green team was trailing by seven points until Gold’s Kai Healy closed the match with two free throws to reach the maximum 21 points to win, with a nine point advantage over the Green team, 21-12.
