Boomers star Baynes closes in on NBA move

Australian Boomers star Aron Baynes could be on his way to the NBA, with reports surfacing the North Queensland-native could be headed to the San Antonio Spurs on a multi-year deal.

CBSSports.com has reported Baynes is close to joining fellow Boomers star Patty Mills and former Boomers coach Brett Brown in San Antonio.

Since signing with Slovenian team Olimpija Ljubljana during the European summer Baynes has taken his game to another level, leading the Euroleague in rebounds (9.8 per game) and top 10 in points (13.8 per game).

Such has been Baynes’ impact he was rated the most efficient player in the entire Euroleague competition through the first group stage of competition, ranking number one in the Index Rating category.

These performances have created plenty of talk around the 26-year-old, coming on the back of a breakout Olympic campaign for the Boomers at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Despite limited minutes, Baynes averaged 9 points at 65.6% shooting and 3.3 rebounds during the Boomers London tournament, catching the eye with his link-up play with fellow NBA hopeful Matthew Dellavedova.
