Jackson to be immortalised in wax

Jayco Australian Opals star Lauren Jackson is one of six Australian sporting greats nominated to be immortalised in wax at the world-famous Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Sydney.

The four-time Olympic Medallist is one of the most recognisable sports stars in Australia and could join the likes of Cathy Freeman and Ian Thorpe with your help.

Jackson, the first female Australian flag bearer at an Olympic Games, is one of six sporting legends nominated for the honour and with your support she can become the first Australian basketballer to be recreated in wax form.

“It has been a whirlwind 12 months and this was such an unexpected surprise to top off an amazing year,” Jackson said.

“It was a huge honour and privilege to lead the Australian team and be chosen to carry the flag in the Opening Ceremony at the London Olympics.

“This is also is a great honour to be recognised as a nominee for this activity and I’m most grateful. There really are some great sporting legends in Madame Tussauds and it would be amazing to have my figure alongside them.”

Fans of Jackson can vote at the Madame Tussauds Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/madametussaudssydney

Already one of the all-time greats of women’s basketball, Jackson has four Olympic Medals and FIBA World Championship Gold among an amazing international trophy collection.

Add to this four WNBL MVP honours and three WNBA MVPs over a 15-year club career that has seen her achieve success in the world’s best leagues.

Voting closes on Friday January 18 with the winner to be announced in early February.
