The reigning champions of the National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL), the Wollongong Roller Hawks, are set to represent Australia at the Kitakyushu Champions Cup in Japan later today.
The Kitakyushu Cup is an international invitational club championship, with the title-winning sides from the top domestic leagues in Australia, Japan, Europe and America coming together to crown the best club team in the world.
The Roller Hawks won the right to contest the tournament after defeating the Perth Wheelcats in the Grand Final of the NWBL recently.
Wollongong will be led by Australian stars Brett Stibners, Nick Taylor and Grant Mizens, and will take on American team the Dallas Mavericks, Galatassary SK from Turkey and local Japanese favourites Miyagi MAX.
Australian Rollers national team star Tristan Knowles will also be playing in the tournament for his European club Galatassary SK.
The Roller Hawks open the tournament with a game against Miyagi MAX on Friday 26 October at 9:00AM (local time/date). The Australians will then face Knowles and Galatassary SK at 1:00PM on Saturday 27 October. Wollongong will close out pool play with a clash against the Dallas Mavericks at 9:00AM on Sunday 28 October before the Finals are played later that day.
The tournament organisers are expecting to provide a live stream of action from the event, with fans able to access it through the Kitakyushu Champions Cup website at http://www.kitakyushu-cup.com/. Fans can also follow the Roller Hawks on Twitter (@Roller_Hawks).
