EoI for Australian U17 Men's & Women's Teams

Basketball Australia is seeking Expressions of Interest for all positions for the 2014 Australian U17 Men’s and Women’s teams.

FIBA introduced the U17 Men’s and Women’s World Championships in 2010 with Australia qualifying in 2009/11 and competing in Hamburg (Men-6th) and Toulouse (Women-7th) in 2010 and again in 2012 in Lithuania (Men-Silver medal) and The Netherlands (Women-5th).

In addition FIBA World U19 Championships are now held each two years with a FIBA Oceania Championship the year prior to the World Championship.

As part of the preparation for the two year cycle and the introduction of the U17 age category, Basketball Australia two years ago increased the number of Australian Development Camps.

Athletes are selected for the Australian Development Camps through identification and participation in the NITP, Australian Junior Championships and State based competitions. Identification of athletes for the 2014 U17 Australian Men’s and Women’s teams has commenced.

Athletes in these age categories have attended Australian Development Camp in September this year and 20 male and female athletes will been identified for the 2011 January ADC at the AIS.

We will have some of these identified athletes representing Australia in the FIBA Oceania Youth Championships from 24 November to 2nd December in Churchill, Victoria.

The positions being sought are: Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, Team Manager, Physiotherapist, and Doctor.

It is expected that the Head Coaches will be appointed by 1st December with the Head Coaches invited to the January Australian Development Camp.

The program in 2013 will be 2 Camps and potential games against any touring teams or Australian based teams with the FIBA Oceania U17 championship to be held in September 2013.

Australia has put a bid into FIBA Oceania to host the event.  Participation in the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship is conditional on winning the 2013 FIBA Oceania Championship.

The term of appointment will be effective January 2013 until 30 August 2014 – subject to Australia qualifying for the 2014 World Championships.

Expression of Interest should include a resume detailing coaching experience and experience working with this age group.

The expression of interest will close on Monday 31st October - Basketball Australia may hold interviews for the positions.
