The NBL has revised its schedule following the recent decision by the Gold Coast Blaze to withdraw from the competition.
The resulting changes to the fixture will create an unexpected dividend for basketball fans however with NBL Opening Night now seeing a blockbuster Grand Final rematch. Reigning title-holders the New Zealand Breakers will host the team they beat to win it all last season, the Perth Wildcats, on October 5.
In good news for New South Wales NBL fans, NBL Opening Night will also still feature the previously scheduled intrastate clash between the Sydney Kings and Wollongong Hawks at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre.
The other two opening round matches also remain unchanged from the previously released fixture, with the Townsville Crocodiles visiting archrivals the Cairns Taipans on 6 October for a ‘Reptile Rumble’ and the Melbourne Tigers under new head coach Chris Anstey travelling to South Australia to play the Adelaide 36ers on October 7.
Clubs will play 28 home-and-away games during the regular season with each team playing each other four times. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the 2012 NBL Finals, which are expected to commence on March 29 next year. The best-of-three Grand Final series will be played in mid-April.
The eight NBL teams that will play in 2012/13 are the Adelaide 36ers, Cairns Taipans, Melbourne Tigers, New Zealand Breakers, Perth Wildcats, Sydney Kings, Townsville Crocodiles and Wollongong Hawks.
