Australia opened up a big lead early in the contest and also drew two early fouls on China’s seven-foot centre in the first quarter, a good result which took away much of China’s strength in the paint, enabling Australia to take a strangle-hold of the contest.
The Aussies were able to maintain the defensive pressure throughout the game, while dominating the offensive and defensive glass, winning the count 44-27.
In the second half, the Aussies continued to play an impressive brand of basketball, and Head Coach Guy Molloy was able to give the starters a good rest for tomorrow’s big clash against the Czech Republic.
Australian shot an impressive 46.7 per cent from the floor for the game, while China struggled at 37 per cent in the face of the intense Aussie defense.
The Aussies looked after the ball well, turning it over just 12 times for the full 40 minutes, while forcing China into twice as many errors: they coughed it up 24 times.
After the big 37-point win, the Aussies now face the Czech Republic in their next match-up who are also 1-1 on the tournament.
