Matt Nielsen’s Khimky seal Eurocup Championship

In a thrilling final, Boomers captain Matt Nielsen and his side Khimky BC defeated Brad Newley and AJ Ogilvy’s Valencia for the Eurocup title early this morning, taking the win 77-68.

Midway through the final term, the scores were deadlocked at 66-66, before the Russian side rallied and overran their worthy opponents to record the big victory and a ticket to the Euroleague next season.

Nielsen played 16 valuable minutes for his side to deliver two points, two rebounds and two assists. Brad Newley, who top-scored in the semi final for Valencia against Lietuvos Ryats to earn a ticket to the Eurocup Final, saw limited game time, playing seven minutes on the floor.

Top-scoring for Khimki was Zoran Planinic who finished with 19 points, while for Valencia, Niklas Caner-Medley finished with 23 points.
