Mills plays first game with San Antonio Spurs

Australian Boomers point guard Patty Mills played his first game as a San Antonio Spur in the NBA today, after officially signing with the team yesterday, following a long VISA process.

The Spurs defeated the Phoenix Suns 107-100, with Mills, in  his number 8 jersey, hitting the floor for 4.23 minutes to register a rebound and a foul. He was guarding two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash, and was able to contain the superstar and force him into a turnover.

Considering Mills hadn't even trained with the team, the minutes were certainly welcomed, and a good sign that he will be a valued member of the Spurs team for the remainder of the season.

It was reported that Mills had agreed to terms with the Spurs over a week ago, however he has been unable to sign officially as a result of some issues surrounding a US working VISA.

Mills played nine games this season in the NBL for the Melbourne Tigers where he averaged 18.6 points per game, before moving to China to play with the Xinjian Flying Tigers in the Chinese Basketball League, where he averaged 26.5 points and 3.8 assists.
