Dellavedova named WCC Player of the Week

If Matthew Dellavedova didn’t let his coaches know that he was keen on a spot in the Boomers Olympic team when he was last in Oz at the FIBA Oceania qualifiers, he’s doing it on the floor at St Mary’s this year, posting some impressive numbers of late.

Delly picked up a West Coast Conference (WCC) Player of the Week Award last week after leading the Gaels to a perfect 3-0 record against San Francisco, Gonzaga and finally Portland.

Over the week, Delly averaged 20.3 points and 6.7 assists per game, shooting 55 per cent from the field and 50 per cent from beyond the arc (13 of 26).

He registered a career high 27 points against San Francisco and backed that up with 26 points against the 21st ranked Gonzaga.

Dellavedova leads the WCC conference in assists with 6.6 per game, which is one of the best averages in the country. He leads the Gaels in scoring over the season with a 15.1 per game average.

Now considered one of the top players in school history after only two and a half seasons, Delly is among the career leaders in scoring, assists, three-point shooting and games started.
