Referees Matthew Wells (Sydney) and Phil Haines (Adelaide) have been appointed to officiate at the 2012 London Paralympic Games wheelchair basketball tournament.
For Wells, this is his second appointment at a Paralympic tournament, after also refereeing at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.
For Phil Haines, he makes his Paralympic debut. Haines is also a FIBA referee and officiated at the FIBA U17 Men’s World championship in Hamburg in 2010. He is also on the NBL panel, with this recent achievement adding to an already impressive list of achievements as a referee.
Don Perriman from Melbourne has also been named as a Classifer for the London Paralympic Games next year. Perriman is an experienced Classifer and is also the FIBA President of the Player Classification Commission.
Finally, Helen Rosenberg, who has been refereeing in the national men’s and women’s wheelchair league, was recently awarded her IWBF referee badge at the Asia Oceania Zone Championships in Goyang, Korea last month. This will surely see Rosenberg make a great impact on the international circuit for many years to come.
Basketball Australia would like to congratulate the above officials for excellence in their respective careers and wishes them well for their upcoming challenges.
