2011/12 NBL and WNBL seasons get underway tonight

After much anticipation, the 2010/11 WNBL and NBL seasons tip off tonight, with two bumper contests set to launch what promises to be a memorable season of Australian basketball.

The Melbourne Tigers host the Sydney Kings in the first NBL match-up of the season from the Cage in Melbourne. Taking to the floor for the first time in a Tigers singlet is Patty Mills who will join his Tiger teammates in front of a sell-out Melbourne crowd.

The Sydney Kings will be keen to impress with their new-look line-up featuring last year’s runner-up MVP Julian Khazzouh joined in the paint by Jerai Grant, while former Boomers’ playmaker Aaron Bruce takes his place in the Kings backcourt.

Meanwhile, in Sydney, the new-look Sydney Uni Flames will host AIS in what promises to be an exciting match-up in the first game of the WNBL season. Jayco Opals veteran stars Alicia Poto and Belinda Snell take their place in the Flames line-up, with a number of other Opals players set to return to the League.

For the AIS, rising stars Olivia Thompson and Rebecca Cole, along with the other young hopefuls, will be full of confidence off the back of some impressive international performances with the national U19’s teams.
