Andersen signs three-year deal Montepaschi Siena

Golden Star Australian Boomers centre David Andersen looks to be heading back to Europe after the big man signed a three-year deal with Italian club Men’s Sana Basket, more popularly known as Montepaschi Siena this week.

The 211cm, 112kg product of Frankston, Victoria has averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in the NBA the past two seasons.

Andersen moved to the Houston Rockets from Barcelona before he was traded to the Toronto Raptors for the beginning of the 2010/11 NBA season. After a few months, he ended up at the New Orleans Hornets, where he finished the most recent season.

With a potential NBA lock-out looming, Andersen appears to have made the decision to take his game back to Europe where he was a Euroleague star before starting his NBA career. He was named as one of the premier big-men in Russia when he played for CSKA Moscow, earning All-Euroleague first team honours in 2004/05. Prior to that, Andersen was a strong player with Virtus Bolognia, leading them to a national title. He also played previously with Montepaschi Siena and helped them to the Final Four in 2003/04 in Tel Aviv.
