Rollers too strong for South Africa

The Australian Rollers have continued their impressive form in the Tri Series Tournament recording their third-consecutive victory with a 91-49 win over the South African national wheelchair team this morning at the AIS Training Hall in Canberra.

After surviving a thrilling contest in Game 2 of the series yesterday in which the Rollers held on by only three points against the Netherlands, Australia ensured there were no nervous moments to end this game, outscoring South Africa 28-4 in the final term.

South Africa began the contest much stronger in their second game of the series, and after struggling to overcome a slow start against the Rollers yesterday, kept pace with Australia early despite being outscored 24-15.

South African were able to reduce the margin to 5 points early in the second term, before the Rollers accelerated their scoring attack, opening up a 44-28 halftime lead.

The third quarter was the tightest of the match, with the visitors matching the Rollers basket for basket, Australia only narrowly outscoring them 19-17 for the term.

But from there it was one way traffic, Australia convincingly finishing the game with a 28-4 final quarter.

In the absence of Tristan Knowles, Brad Ness led the way for the Rollers with 28 points including a team equal-high with 8 rebounds, while Shaun Norris put together a terrific all-round game finishing with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists.

Richard Nortje led all scorers for South Africa, finishing with 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Thandile Zonke finished with 8 points.
