After accounting for the NSW Institute of Sport, 65-55, in their first official hit-out of their tour on Tuesday, the Netherlands group continued their ongoing preparations for the upcoming European Championships, with an impressive come from behind victory.
In front of a great local crowd, and behind strong support for the Shellharbour community, Wollongong burst out of the blocks in the first term, pouring in 17 points and opening up a nine point lead. The Netherlands responded in the second term by outscoring the home side 21-12 and tying the scores at halftime 29-29.
Through great teamwork the Netherlands were able to edge ahead by one point leading into the last term, and from there were too strong for the Wollongong side, exploding for 33 points to come away 16 point victors.
Wollongong Roller Hawks Tristan Knowles top-scored in the game with 36 points and 19 rebounds, which included the highlight of the night a sensational three-point basket. Fellow Roller Hawk Luke Pople added 23 points, while Edwin Schalkx top-scored for the Netherlands with 18 points and Paul Toes added 14 points in just over 5 minutes of court time.
The Netherlands next game is against the West Sydney Razorbacks at Sydney Uni Sport at 9.30am on Sunday, before taking part in a Tri Series Tournament against both Australia and South Africa at the AIS in Canberra next week.
