Emus bounce back in game two

Before an enthusiastic crowd at the Crikvenica ‘Gradska Sportska Dvorana’, the Australian Emus reversed the result of the previous night’s game to run out winners against Croatia 86 to 67.

Hugh Greenwood led all scorers for the Emus with 14 points. He was well supported by Anthony Drmic and Mitch Creek with 13 points apiece, while Jackson Aldridge added 12 points and Daniel Trist had 10 points.

The game tipped off with a return of the renowned Emus’ intensity and enthusiasm, which saw the side head into quarter time with a 16 point lead.

In the second stanza the Emus maintained their high octane running game, which was complimented by aggressive pressure defence. The lead had extended to 21 at the half time interval, the Emus going into the change rooms in front 51-30.

The third quarter was an arm wrestle as both sides tried to establish control of the game.

In the last quarter the Emus were forced to weather a withering comeback by the home team, the Emus only scoring one point in the first four minutes of the quarter as the lead continually diminished.

Croatia got within four points before the Emus rallied and then surged ahead to finally finish the game with a nineteen point win, the series now levelled at 1–1.

Head Coach Damian Cotter was very happy with the team’s response after game one. “I felt the players did a good job of making the necessary adjustments and we are now looking forward to an intense contest with Croatia in game three,” said Cotter.
