Emus fall short in tour opener

The Australian U19 Mens Team have started their three game series against Croatia with a tough loss, going down to the Europeans by ten points, 77-67.

In the north of Croatia, in the picturesque Adriatic town of Crikvenica, a frenetic opening stanza saw the Emus struggle to adjust to the Croatian full court pressure, falling behind early with Croatia leading by seven at the first break.

The second quarter saw Greenwood and Creek each collect their third foul early in the period, as the Emus continued to struggle with the intensity of the game and the Croatian domination of the boards. Despite this, the Emus battled bravely to keep the margin to 10 points going into the half time interval, 38-28.

The third quarter saw the Emus gain some poise spearheaded by the inspirational efforts of Hugh Greenwood. But a late rally by Croatia saw the home team enter the final break leading by 12 points.
