The Emus are coming to the business end of their preparations for the U19 FIBA Men's World Championship of basketball in Latvia between June 30 and July 10, 2011.
According to Emus head coach Damien Cotter, the camps are the perfect opportunity to reinforce some of the values that the national team continues hold as they look for success on the international stage.
"What stands out is the competitiveness and camaraderie – that mateship culture that’s ingrained in us," he said. "It’s such a big thing when we go overseas and compete with other nations," said Cotter.
The team will travel to Croatia and Russia to take part in some preparation games between May 27 and June 6. They will then head to Lithuania for their final preparation match-ups between 23-27 of June.
Selecting the final team that will compete overseas won't be an easy task, but Cotter gave a hint to what he will be looking for when making the last cuts.
"The things that help kids make those teams are having a skill set that allows them to diversify," he said. "You might be a very good forward in your club, but when you go internationally, do you have the skill set that will allow you to solve more problems on the court. And that’s really important."
