Newly appointed Head coach, Simon Robinson has selected 23 of the best eligible players in the country to attend the first camp since 2009 for the Boomerangs.
The camp to be held in Melbourne at St Columba’s College Essendon over the Easter weekend is the first camp for the Boomerangs (Australian Men’s basketball team for Athletes with an Intellectual Disability).
Athletes were selected following the Ivor Burge Championship held in Maitland in February and they will be put through their paces in preparation for the upcoming 3rd INAS Global Games being held in Italy this September.
Head Coach Simon Robinson commented, “We have a tight timeline and an even tighter budget but we feel confident with the mix of experience and youthful energy and we believe that we can be pretty competitive.”
The program also has a new manager in Carmen Skidmore from Orange in NSW and retains the services of Assistant Coach George Havakis.
“This is the first international campaign for Carmen and myself so the knowledge of the tournament and opposing teams George has gained from previous Global Games is going to be exceedingly valuable,” said Robinson. “International competition is fierce so you need every edge you can get.”
