The Gems head to Melbourne Camp

The Australian U19 Women’s squad, The Gems, are set to touch down in Melbourne tomorrow afternoon ahead of a big five-day camp that runs until Saturday evening, as they prepare for the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship of Basketball for Women.

Each day the squad will be put through their paces, hitting the floor for as many as four hours a day throughout the course of the camp, with the trip highlighted by two practice games as well.

The Gems will do battle against the Knox SEABL women’s basketball team at Dandenong Stadium on Wednesday night, followed by their second match-up against the Dandenong SEABL women’s team from Dandenong Stadium on Friday night.

A squad of 17 of Australia’s best U19 players are vying for a spot in the final team of 12 players who will represent Australia in Chile in July.
