2014 FIBA Women's World Champs headed for Turkey

Despite a strong bid for the 2014 FIBA Women’s World Championships of Basketball, Basketball Australia was unable to secure the event, Turkey instead set to host the Championship as announced by FIBA this morning, from Lyon, France.

Basketball Australia Chairperson Diane Smith-Gander and Basketball Australia CEO Larry Sengstock were both present to receive the news and although disappointed with the outcome, feel proud of what Australia put forth in competition for the 2014 Tournament.

“We provided our best technical bid and feel very comfortable that we had everything necessary to put on what would’ve been a memorable tournament,” said Smith-Gander.

“We’d like to congratulate Turkey for securing the event and we wish them the best of luck as they begin their preparations.”
