Rollers ready for World Championships

Rollers ready for World Championships

The Rollers are now just days away from their opening game of the 2010 IWBF World Championships, due to take place against France on Friday July 8.

The team will depart Cardiff today, where they have been in a final training camp in preparation for the event.

The Rollers will be quietly confident going into the tournament; they are the reigning Paralympic Games champions and had one of their most successful years in 2009, winning the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester, the Rollers World Challenge in Sydney and the IWBF Asia-Oceania Zone Championship in Melbourne.

In the more recent 2010 Paralympic Cup in Manchester, held in May, the Rollers managed a credible Bronze medal, conceding their title to a powerful U.S. side.

The Americans are likely to be the Rollers' biggest hurdle in their drive to win the IWBF World Championships Gold medal this year, putting their form on display in their recent victory over Great Britain in the North America Cup.

However, the Rollers will be more focussed on the form of Mexico, France, Turkey, Algeria and Canada, who they will face in the initial round-robin stage of the tournament.
