Erin Phillips’ Polish side Lotos Gydnia upset fellow Opal Hollie Grima’s Czech Republic club Frisco Sika Brno on Thursday night to breathe life into their EuroLeague Women campaign.
After a difficult two weeks which saw prominent players Alana Beard, Paulina Pawlak and Emilija Podrug depart the club, the Gdynia outfit regrouped and beat the Czech giants 77-73 with a gritty effort.
Phillips scored 16 points in the matchup, draining 3-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc. The Olympian added an equal game high eight points and added seven rebounds, and a steal.
Frisco slipped to a 5-4 win-loss record with the defeat while Gdynia improved to 3-6 and moved into fourth place.
Grima scored six points to go with five rebounds, two steals and two assists in the loss.
