Gliders undergo first camp of 2010

Australia's women's wheelchair basketball team, the Gliders, begin a four day training and selection camp at the Australian Institute of Sport on Friday.

Nine members of the Gliders’ Bronze Medal winning team from the Beijing Paralympics will be in attendance as part of a squad with no debutantes.

Five-time Paralympian Liesl Tesch, fresh off competing in the 2009 Sydney-to-Hobart Yacht Race, is the most experienced of the athletes while 18-year old Sarah Vinci is the least capped Glider at the camp.

Basketball Australia along with head coach John Triscari will select a team after the conclusion of the camp to contest the 2010 Osaka Cup in Japan.

Beijing Gold Medallist USA, Australia, Canada (4th in Beijing), and host nation Japan (5th in Beijing) make up a strong four nation, 2010 Osaka Cup field that will contest the tournament from February 18-20.

Gliders camp at the AIS concludes on Monday, 18 January.
