I'm just sitting up packed ready to head off to Russia finally. It’s been an 8 day training camp for me (15 days for the rest of the team) in Croatia near the Adriatic Sea which included 4 games. The body pulled up really well actually. It’s surprising what a week’s rest can do. The back and hamstring pulled up all good and I'm thankful I brought my massage roller, a stretching belt and a tennis ball. They've been a good investment. I must say that it’s been great coming in fit and ready to go. It makes it easier to get through everything they want you to do.
The girls are really great. I was pleasantly surprised. They’re warming up to me every day which is great. There are only 2 girls that speak a little English with the head coach being the one who speaks English better than them. They have a lot install for me once I get to Russia. They've planned a visit to the zoo, some ice skating and a trip to a good hairdresser. They also keep telling me they like playing with me too which is the most important. We have a lot of work to do but the season doesn't start ‘til October 9 so we've got time. The one game per week is gonna be great for the body actually. I’ll be able to get a lot more off court work done like weights and individual skills.
For all of you that don't know, I've found a wonderful new friend named SKYPE. My SKYPE name is pottsie-06 so for those of you who have it please add me. For those of you who don't have it, get it. Once I get to Russia, I’ll get the webcam and microphone all set up. That was one of those things I didn't get done before I left. Not sure if I’ll be getting on Face Book, much to the disgust of some of you but I’ll see how I go.
The name of the town I'm in is NOVOSIBIRSK which is the 3rd largest city in Russia. Apparently, the time difference is only 3 hours from Sydney which is great. As you know, it’s about to be winter in the northern hemisphere and the temperature in Novosibirsk reaches around the -30 with lots of snow. I definitely need to go shopping for winter clothes. That shouldn't be too hard considering I have a driver to take me everywhere I want to go 24/7. I seriously love how they're treating me.
We've got a big trip to Russia in the morning. We've gotta travel 3 hours by bus to Zagreb then a 3 hour flight to Moscow and then across to Novosibirsk which is another 4 hour flight. We arrive in Novosibirsk at 6am local time. I really can’t wait to get settled into my apartment which will be my new home for the next 7-8 months.
Well that's about it for this update. The next time you hear from me I’ll be in my new home in Novosibirsk and I’ll be sure to tell you all about it.
Take care and I hope I hear from you all soon. For all the Opals girls, good luck for your upcoming season. Go do your thing.
PS: I plan to be home for Christmas too. Yipee!
