Wheelchair Basketball players from New South Wales and all over Queensland are gearing up for the clinic.

The clinic is funded by Australian Athletes with a Disability (AAWD) and they anticipate 40 participants and 9 coaches from all across QLD (Brisbane, Mackay, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, Gold Coast), one from NT and a few from northern NSW.

The event will be held on Saturday 19th September from 9:00am – 5:00pm at the Carrara Basketball Stadium and will be a fun, competitive and skill-development day for both coaches and players.

The training and development workshop will be conducted by two of Australia’s best wheelchair basketball coaches, Ettridge, Craig Friday and Tom Kyle.

Ben is the Head Coach and Craig the Assistant Coach of the gold medal-winning Australian Men’s Paralympic team and Tom is the Assistant Coach of the Australian U23 Wheelchair Basketball team.

The wheelchair basketball initiative is closely aligned with the NBL’s Gold Coast Blaze who have welcomed and encouraged the introduction of the sport to the Coast.

Registrations applications can be obtained by emailing

Gold Coast Blaze CEO Dave Claxton says everyone should get behind the sport and the competitors.

“With the national basketball league season starting in a matter of weeks, now is the time to really support basketball in our city – that includes the Blaze, Rollerblaze and wheelchair basketball teams,” he said.
