Barlow to miss Tall Blacks Test

Olympian David Barlow's good fortune is bad news for Basketball Australia with a new overseas contract ruling the Boomers swing man out of a crucial match against New Zealand.

The Boomers face New Zealand in Sydney on August 23 to determine the FIBA Oceania Championship and seedings for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

But Barlow will be in Europe after signing a contract with Spanish club team Zaragoza.

“My team requires me over in Zaragoza,” Barlow informed Basketball Australia [LISTEN TO AUDIO].

“It’s my first season over there and I’ve pretty much got to do what they tell me, so unfortunately I won’t be part of the New Zealand series but I will be going on tour to Argentina and Brazil and I’m really looking forward to playing some games with these guys.”

The Boomers are mid way through a five day training camp at The Kings School in Parramatta and will depart for South America on Monday.

Beijing Olympians Joe Ingles and Mark Worthington will come into the group this afternoon as late arrivals and will be with the squad for the duration of the camp. Ingles may be included in the team to tour South America.

Senior players and Olympians Matthew Nielsen, Andrew Bogut and David Andersen will attend the camp on Friday but will not be taking the court.

Media are invited to attend the training camp sessions and do not require permission from the school to enter the school grounds.
