A.J. Ogilvy leads the pack back to Oz

Australian Boomers squad member AJ Ogilvy will lead his US College, Vanderbilt University, when they tour Australia to take on local teams including Dandenong, Kilsyth and the AIS in August.

Leading the way in 2009-10 for Vanderbilt will be junior centre Ogilvy, who was named to the All-SEC second team for the second consecutive season. Ogilvy, who originates from Sydney, Australia, is considered a future NBA draft pick.

Ogilvy is excited about playing with his Vanderbilt team mates in Australia, “What excites me most about this trip is the opportunities for my family and friends who haven't been able to see me play have the chance to come out and watch. It’s also a great chance for all of our guys to have a great trip and for me to show them around my country.”

210cm Ogilvy was a member of the 2008 Boomers squad and made his Boomers debut against Iran before suiting up in the green and gold again against the Tall Blacks in the Ramsay Shield.

Vanderbilt University will take on the Swinburne Kilsyth Cobras in an Exhibition Match at the Kilsyth Sports Centre on Tuesday 11 August 2009. The Vanderbilt Commodores play in the SEC (South East Conference), one of the toughest Conferences in NCAA Basketball.

Commodores Head Coach Kevin Stallings will have high expectations for his team that went 19-12 in 2008-09 and will utilise the trip down under to prepare his team for a deep run into the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

“We are excited about our trip to Australia.  It will be a great team-building experience and a good opportunity to play against some quality international competition.”

“Our team is also thrilled to see A.J.’s home country and his enthusiasm for having his teammates along with him.  It will be a trip our guys will never forget,” said Stallings.

Kilsyth Basketball General Manager and Swinburne Cobras Head Coach is ecstatic about enticing Vanderbilt to play at Kilsyth. “It is a great opportunity for our Club and our players to gain international experience and compete against the best.”

“It is also a wonderful opportunity for our junior players who aspire to get to the States to see what they need to do to achieve their goals,” said Wallace.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6.00pm on Tuesday 11 August 2009 with tickets available at the door for $15 families, $7 adults and $2 children.
